Integration with brokers in FIREkit allows users to connect their brokerage accounts to import and synchronize asset and transaction data automatically. This simplifies portfolio management and makes it more convenient.
Currently, only financial brokers in the U.S. and Canada are supported (excluding crypto exchanges and bank accounts). The integration is implemented through Plaid, ensuring secure and reliable data exchange.
Current stage: Public testing
The integration is currently in the public testing phase (beta testing). This means the functionality is already available to users but may contain minor issues that we actively fix based on your feedback.
One-time import (without receiving transaction updates)
This option allows you to import your current holdings from your broker without ongoing synchronization. Transactions will not be updated automatically. Any future changes must be manually entered.
Snapshot import and synchronization
By choosing this option, FIREkit creates assets based on the current state of your holdings, adding a snapshot of transactions at average prices (without transaction history). All future operations, including purchases, sales, dividends, and taxes, will sync automatically, and the corresponding transactions will be created in the system.
Existing asset synchronization
In this mode, you subscribe to events related to a specific asset. FIREkit receives notifications about all changes, including purchases, sales, dividends, or taxes, and creates corresponding transactions.
To connect a new asset, select the Connect option in the asset creation menu. To link an existing asset, go to the Connect menu in the asset's properties.
Choose the Connect via Plaid option and follow the on-screen instructions.

FIREkit will create the asset if needed and establish a connection with Plaid. The system will then automatically receive updates and create transactions.
Broker-specific connection instructions
Each broker has unique connection and data security requirements. For instance, some brokers only require a login and password, while others, like Interactive Brokers, may require additional setup.
Example of Connecting Interactive Brokers
Always refer to Plaid's instructions available in each connection window. They guide you through the necessary steps.
How to disconnect integration?
You can disconnect the integration in the menu of each connected asset. Deleting your account will also disable all integrations.
FIREkit ensures maximum data protection by leveraging advanced technologies and standards. Integration is performed through Plaid, a global leader in secure financial data exchange.
Read-only access: We only receive view access to your brokerage account information, with no ability to modify or execute transactions.
User control: You can revoke account access at any time through FIREkit or directly with the broker.
Data encryption: All data is transmitted using encrypted protocols, ensuring security during transfer.
Compliance standards: Plaid adheres to standards such as SOC 2 and GDPR, guaranteeing a high level of confidentiality and data protection.

Yes. Plaid does not store your credentials, and FIREkit receives read-only access. All data is encrypted and transmitted through secure channels. You can revoke access at any time.
That means your broker is not yet supported. We're continuously working to expand the list of supported brokers.
See our step-by-step example for connecting Interactive Brokers.
This depends on how you connected your financial institution:
If you added it as a new asset, FIREkit imports only the current balance and calculates the average purchase price for each position. Transaction history is not included.
If you linked it to an existing asset, FIREkit doesn’t change your existing data but subscribes to new events: deposits, buys, sells, dividends, and taxes.
In any case, you can manually add your past transactions if you want a full history.
You can add all past transactions manually or use FIREkit’s import feature. After that, link the asset to your broker; future transactions will sync automatically. This approach gives you both historical accuracy and future automation.
The Plaid connection window usually has a "Continue as guest" option. Click it to bypass the phone number request and proceed without SMS verification.
Sometimes Plaid sends tickers in a non-standard format, and FIREkit can't automatically recognize them. The asset will still be created, but may have an incorrect or missing ticker. Don’t worry — you can manually assign the correct ticker or select the asset from the list. This is typically needed only once, and the system will remember it.
No, updates are delayed — typically by a few hours or once per day, depending on the broker. This is a limitation of the financial institution.
Yes. You can connect multiple accounts or sub-accounts from the same broker. Each one will appear as a separate asset in FIREkit.
