Step 4: Download the .csv file

Run the report and save the generated .csv file to your computer.

Do not open and resave the CSV file in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets, or another spreadsheet application before importing it. These applications may change the original formatting of the report.

2. Import the Report into FIREkit

Step 1: Start the import

  1. Sign in to your FIREkit account.

  2. Select Create asset → Import Interactive Brokers report

Step 2: Upload the Activity Statement

Drag the downloaded .csv file into the upload area or select it from your computer.

Make sure you upload the original CSV file generated by Interactive Brokers.

Step 3: Review the import

FIREkit imports trades (stocks, bonds, forex), deposits and withdrawals, dividends, withholding tax, fees, transfers, and grant activity. One holding is created per IBKR account in the file.

3. Import Activity from Multiple Years

For a long account history, we recommend generating a separate CSV Activity Statement for each calendar year.

For example:

Step 1: Download previous calendar years

In Interactive Brokers:

  1. Open Performance & Reports → Statements.

  2. Run an Activity Statement.

  3. Select Annually as the period.

  4. Select the required year.

  5. Select CSV as the format.

  6. Download the report.

  7. Repeat these steps for every year you want to import.

For the current incomplete year, select Year to Date instead.

Step 2: Import the files into FIREkit

Upload each report separately. We recommend importing them in chronological order, starting with the oldest year and finishing with the current year.

For example:

  1. Import 2022.

  2. Import 2023.

  3. Import 2024.

  4. Import 2025.

  5. Import the current year-to-date report.

Use non-overlapping reporting periods so the same account activity is not included in more than one file.

4. Keep Your Interactive Brokers Portfolio Updated via Plaid

After importing your Activity Statement, you can connect the existing Interactive Brokers holdings via Plaid to receive future updates automatically.

5. Troubleshooting

FIREkit does not accept the file

Check that:

The report does not include all transactions

Check the selected account and reporting period in Interactive Brokers. For older activity, generate and import a separate annual report for each missing year.

Fixing a bad import

Delete the affected holding and re-import the correct files.
